Camcorder Battery

What do you want to know about camcorder batteries

In camcorder the battery life becomes a very important matter, since without power the device becomes useless. There are a few ways by which you can maintain your camcorder batteries and make them last long. It is appropriate to buy additional long life batteries so as to ensure that while you put one set on charge, you may use the other as a replacement. The batteries that you have in your camcorder may discharge rapidly if you leave the batteries inside and not use your camcorder for a long time. You should plug your camcorder over-night for the batteries to charge, even if you have charged the batteries to its capacity previously. This will make sure that you can have the batteries well charged when you use your camcorder.

Types of Camcorder Batteries

The use of LCD screen may drain as much as twice the battery power compared to your camcorder's view finder. It is advisable that, if you are in a place where you need to conserve the battery power, you should shut your LCD screen and use your camcorder's view finder. At times you are tempted to watch the movie you have just recorded. If you wait till you get back home, you could plug in your camcorder to the power and watch the movie without draining your battery power. You should also remember that switching the camcorder on and off, or zooming in and out too often may drain your battery power. If you at all need to switch off and switch on your camcorder, keep it to a minimum, and use zoom in and out only sparingly when your camcorder is running on battery.

In the previous days, camcorder batteries came in five different categories. You do not find the lead acid bricks and the AA alkaline batteries, which have practically gone out of circulation, and Ni-Cd batteries are getting obsolete. Presently, in most of the cases nickel metal hydride (NiMH) and lithium ion (Li-Ion) batteries are being used. These batteries, which have a good weight to power ratio, have a greater strength of not only to hold power, but to deliver more compared to the older types of the same size. The batteries have a uniform output voltage, and they hold the voltage steady over a long period of time. On the other hand, the older one would suddenly drop below the threshold voltage required by your camcorder, while lot of charge is yet left in the batteries.

Nickel metal hydride and lithium ion batteries are long lasting, while the Li-Ion has a better performance than the other. The single use Li batteries have an extraordinarily long life, but do not expect such performances from the rechargeable batteries that come with your camcorder. The rechargeable batteries always hold less power than the throw away ones, having the same specifications. There are quite many advantages when you choose Li-Ion battery for your camcorder. Its design takes you a longer way providing you with a better lasting performance. Li-Ion batteries can be recharged several times, and they can be quickly charged. The batteries hold its charge for a long time compared to others, which makes it your choice when you go shopping for a camcorder.
