MP3 batteries

The battery in your MP3 player

Ni-Cd has had their days in powering devices, and today, the battery technology has advanced to provide better batteries with more capacity. One such is NiMH mP3 batteries. However, the frustrations continue. The battery that you have in your mP3 player, may refuse to take a recharge, take long time to charge, or crap out at the wrong moment. It could be that you have not been taking a good care of your mP3 battery, and here are some tips by which you can get the maximum out of the battery that you have in your mP3 player.

The ways you can conserve the power of your mP3 player battery

If you have not bought your mP3 player, you should get the little ones which uses flash memory. This type of mP3 players use less memory, and have smaller batteries, which lasts as long as 40 hours of music play. You should avoid the ones with features like video screens, as these take more power than usual. You should use players with removable batteries, and use the option of the power outlet while at home. You could also have an external battery for your mP3 player, so that it may be used when your internal mP3 battery finally dies. This should save you the trouble and expense to have your mP3 battery immediately replaced.

You can do a lot yourself to save energy of your mP3 battery, by thinking of the ways you can stop draining of the battery needlessly. The hard drive in your mP3 player, along with the backlight and the head phone, are some of the major power drawing features in your player. You should restrict the use of the hard drive, and use it no more than you require. As and when you download music, always use the power adapter and not the battery. When you play your music, try not to skip the tracks as it draws power from your mp3 battery.

The backlight drains a lot of power from your mP3 battery, and you should avoid turning it up higher than what you need. You should also shorten the off time of the backlight in your mP3 player. Do not put up the volume too high when you are playing your player. If you use headphones, you should try to use ear phones instead. They consume less power than the headphones.

How do you care for your mP3 battery

You need to care for your mP3 battery as well. The battery has to go through charge discharge cycles at least 3 times, and this should be done every month. The discharge cycle should be able to discharge the battery completely before it is charged again. In this way you can maintain the full capacity of your mP3 battery. NiMH batteries do not have memory effects, as Ni-Cd has, and can pack-in more power than Ni-Cd batteries. NiMH mP3 batteries are designed to take about 400 charge discharge cycles, and any incomplete discharge is waste of a cycle.
